Workshops at Janet's Studio in Narre Warren North

Workshop Format

Each Workshop has a specific theme, and Janet demonstrates each technique in an easy to follow, step by step process, for beginners through to advanced students.
The day will be broken up into sections where Janet demonstrates a technique, ie the eyes and nose, then you will do a study in your work book and then begin your final drawing. At the end of the workshop you will have a working book of notes and sketches as well as a final drawing at least three quarters completed.
Janet supplies the reference image to work from in each workshop, although you are welcome to supply your own.
Each workshop features a specific subject and gives an intensive and detailed look at the subject.

Sea horses and dragons

Wonderful, magical creatures are the sea horses, weedy sea dragons and leafy sea dragons.  Capturing their translucent colours, their weightlessness and their quirky personality will be a new skill to achieve.  Background water and seaweed will also need to be drawn to compliment these creatures.

Kangaroo Paw –red and yellow

A delightful flower, with bright colours, interesting shaped flowers and that unique furry texture.  This plant we can draw in pencil for the flowers and paint the leaves in watercolour or pencil. Yellow especially is a colour to learn more about, as creating the shadows without going heavy and too dark is quite a skill.

Summer School in June 2009

Friday: Drawing- refresh and relearn your drawing skills, including increasing the speed of your initial sketching prowess.  Begin with some techniques and exercises and then work at your own speed on your own drawing.  Lines, perspective, tones etc etc.
We will be drawing any subject you wish to choose, including birds, animals, flowers, still life or landscape.

Saturday: Colour pencil techniques – refresh your pencil skills in colour with some exercises and activities to begin with, then apply these to your own drawing.  You may again choose any subject you wish to develop.

Sunday: Special effects- we will focus on some of those more difficult effects that make your work more inspiring.  Things like drawing waterdrops, grass, birds feet, sheen on a magpie etc etc.  If you have any specific effects you want to have covered in this workshop, let me know and I’ll add them to the list.

Drawing Classes at the Zoo

Learn to quickly sketch animals in movement, or at rest. Each session will begin with some quick drawing exercises, over coffee at the designated meeting spot, then put into practice with guidance and demonstration of the tutor (both of whom are very experienced with drawing in these circumstances).
Choose to work in pencil, pen, pen and wash, brush markers.
