Workshops at Janet's Studio in Narre Warren North

Workshop Format

Each Workshop has a specific theme, and Janet demonstrates each technique in an easy to follow, step by step process, for beginners through to advanced students.
The day will be broken up into sections where Janet demonstrates a technique, ie the eyes and nose, then you will do a study in your work book and then begin your final drawing. At the end of the workshop you will have a working book of notes and sketches as well as a final drawing at least three quarters completed.
Janet supplies the reference image to work from in each workshop, although you are welcome to supply your own.
Each workshop features a specific subject and gives an intensive and detailed look at the subject.

Crimson Rosellas
Bright colours, personality and strong feather pattern are features of this wonderful bird. We will learn to push the colour pencil or pastel to it's limit to create strong vibrant colours. The special layering technique to create that amazing zing with the pencil is necessary for anyone wanting to draw bright coloured birds

Tiger Cub portrait
With cubs, there is the opportunity to create fluffy fur, strong patterns and colour and to explore that "Cute Factor" that young animals have. We'll explore the creation of fur, with different techniques and by focusing on only the face we will be able to really work the expression as well. Suitable for colour pencil and pastel.

Designing an Artwork

Creating an artwork from several images, from your own creative mind or using one image and restructuring it to make a stronger, more alive composition will be this workshop's focus. We will also use several different composition techniques. This is a wonderful skill for all levels of artists to develop.

Building an image in pen and wash

This workshop will run through several different techniques for using pen, from quick sketching to a finished detailed image. Then from a selection of subjects you will create your own artwork, building it with pen strokes and squiggles- the basis for all pen drawings. We will explore normal ink pens as well as the new brush markers and coloured ink pens from the FaberCastell range. (Pens for use in the workshop will be supplied)

Leaves in Watercolour

Focusing on gum leaves, we will learn the layering technique used to build leaves with this wonderful medium. Limited colour range of paint needed, we will create leaves in three different levels of shadow and light, with extra details of veins, spots and red edges. This workshop will especially extend the techniques learned in a previous with Terry Napier. Also suitable to total beginners who haven't participated in previous watercolour workshops.

Insects

Bees, Butterflies, Ladybugs- all wonderful additions to any artwork that has flowers and leaves. We'll learn their basic structure, then how to place them in different poses on leaves or tucked into flowers eating the nectar.
This workshop will suit pencil, pastel and watercolour artists.
